Rescue Me ID: 14-09-24-00084Sage-ADOPTION PENDING (male)

Cockapoo    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The Cockapoo is a favorite of the mixed breed dogs. We all seem to love the combination of the outgoing nature and fun personality of the Cocker combined with the smart and intuitive nature of the Poodle. Sage appears to be a perfect combo of these 2 popular breeds. His gorgeous pure white coat lights up his adorable face while the fuzzy spots of wayward hair gives Sage both an adorable as well as regal look. Sage is obviously very special...he was turned into the neighborhood shelter for chasing horses and a wonderful NM foster couldn't forget his sweet face. She brought him into her home to heal and to ready him for a forever home. At ... (Read More)just about 12 - 18 months old and 10 - 12 lbs, Sage shines with an engaging and incredibly sweet disposition. He is an active guy whose tail never, ever stops wagging. He loves to be included in all fun and would love nothing more than a hike or a neighborhood stroll with his family. He really enjoys gentle, respectful kids 12+ and would be an active participant in outdoor games in the yard or a walk to the park. Sage also enjoys the company of other gentle, like-sized dogs and would always like a game or a shared walk. Somewhere along the line, we think that Sage was given love and respect..probably because he's so capable of returning warmth and kindness. Sage is great to take along anywhere there are groups of dog-loving people. He's a bit shy but always warms up with sweetness and warm hugs. We feel that Sage would do well in any home that offered him love, time (long hours left alone at home wouldn't be in the best interest of this social and sensitive pup), appropriate exercise/ mental stimulation and positive reinforcement training will make him the best dog he can possibly be. Sage is a non-shedding guy and therefore requires great nutrition and periodic grooming to keep his very shiny coat healthy and matt-free. Sage's foster mom just sent us this report on this cutie-pie-- -- Sage is very happy and playful (after he gets over his initial shyness). He's been passing the time playing chase and happily wrestling with my sister's little dog! He's very good with people...once comfortable, he'll jump on your lap and lick your face. Sage also loves taking walks, but still needs a bit more practice to walk calmly without pulling on the leash or wanting to play with other dogs that are being walked. We were told that Sage ended up in the shelter for digging under his fence and ending up in the horse pasture - chasing horses was such great sport for this ignored guy. With attention and nurturing, Sage quickly settled into our pack and became less concerned with digging out and much more focused on playing with our other dogs and getting belly rubs and kisses from us. Sage appears to be house trained (or maybe just follows the example of the other dogs) and sleeps in his crate all night. He knows a couple of commands like sit and No and is so respectful to us and to our home We have chihuahuas that have hated all our previous fosters...but Sage is so sweet and agreeable that even the chihuahuas like to play with him and chase each other good-naturedly around the house. I fell in love with Sage the second I met him and felt his goodness. I loved him enough to strongly consider adding a 4th dog to our pack..but these thoughts weren't shared by my husband at all. I hope he is adopted into a family that already has a gentle, smaller dog or two. Sage is such a clown when he gets going and would love the companionship. My dear, sweet Sage...I love you so and wish you a place in the best home ever!-- Sage will arrive on transport in Boulder on 9/27. Animal ID: 13-149Winston (male)

Cockapoo    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Arthritis

'I am a Special Needs Dog. Please don't let that stop you from taking me home so that I can love you and be your close companion'. Winston is a 5 year old white neutered male, medium-size, Cockapoo who was surrendered when his owner could no longer care for him. Winston is a lovely, well-mannered young dog who comes with special needs. He has a history of irritable bowel disease which needs to be managed by a strict diet along with a couple of dietary supplements. Once in rescue it was discovered that Winston also has moderate to severe arthritis in his back and hips and is now on daily glucosamine as well as medication for pain. He moves ... (Read More)a little slower than most dogs his age probably because of arthritic pain. He can still be an active dog with some limitations on long distance walks and running. Winston could definitely benefit from therapeutic exercise such as swimming or other non-impact activities. He is currently beginning a regimen of acupressure, meridian massage, and Healing Touch for Animals to promote better circulation, muscle relaxation, pain relief and total body balance. Winston is definitely a dog who loves people and wants to be included in family activities. He is also happy just to hang around or sit at the feet of his people who might be working at a desk or relaxing with a good book or TV. He loves to cuddle. He has a gentle spirit rather like that of an angel. Yes, Winston is a special needs dog but don't let that stop you from considering taking him into your home. If you would like to know more about Winston and his progress please put in an adoption application at www.RockyMountainCockerRescue.org. His foster mom will be happy to tell you all about him. Winston is micro-chipped, neutered and up-to-date on his shots. If you would like to adopt Winston, please fill out an Adoption Application Online. Winston's special needs adoption fee is $150. We reserve the right to refuse an adoption to any person for the well-being of the dog. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cockapoo in Colorado
Cockapoo Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. A Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. Cockapoos are friendly like Cocker Spaniels and shed very little like Poodles. Cockapoos are good family pets and may exhibit a wide variety of characteristics usual in either Cockers or Poodles. A Cockapoo may be half Cocker and half Poodle or have much more of one strain than the other.

lnteresting Cockapoo Trivia Low-Cost Colorado Spay & Neuter Clinics
Cockapoos come in widely different sizes that have different names, such as the Teacup Toy Cockapoo or the Maxi Cockapoo. Cockapoos are hybrids rather than purebreds but some breeders are trying to develop purebred Cockapoos by breeding Cockapoos with other Cockapoos instead of breeding Cockers with Poodles. Cockapoos are not recognized by the American Kennel Club but they are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club. Cockapoos, like both Cockers and Poodles, may suffer from luxating patellas or loose knees.
