Rescue Me ID: 16-09-13-00260Alan (male)

Cockapoo    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Alan is a very special dog who needs a very special person to match. He is a one year old Cockapoo who arrived at ACL with a terrible embedded collar - someone had left his collar on him so long that it had become stuck in his skin. After an emergency surgery to remove the collar and clean the wound, Alan hit the jackpot - he got to stay with the vet for a few weeks while he healed! Alan is a very sweet dog, and he has been through A LOT. He was adopted but returned because Alan was insecure and protective - common traits for a dog who has been traumatized at a young age. We know a lot about Alan - he's very affectionate, very social, he ... (Read More)loves to play with toys and be loved and babied. He attaches tightly to his friends and loves them fiercely. We also know that he has a tendency towards fearfulness, and he can jealously guard his family. After all he's been through, Alan is deathly afraid that someone will take away the good things that have finally come into his life! And can you blame him? This baby has really had it rough. Alan needs an adults-only home that has dog experience - someone who can strike the balance between making Alan feel safe and letting him know which behaviors are inappropriate. Alan responds well to confident, patient leadership - he won't be successful in a home that is insecure, nervous, or unsure. Alan needs a family who can guide him into adulthood and teach him that there's nothing to be afraid of! For now, he needs to be an only pet in the home, though he does well at doggie day care or dog parks where he can have play time with other dogs and then go back to his own home. He's not approved for children, as a first dog, or for a family who just likes 'his look' - this boy deserves a home that wants to love Alan, teach him, be patient with him, and give him all the security and comfort that he's never had. If you're interested in meeting Alan and you think your house might be the right fit, please email Gabrielle at caninemanager@animalcareleague.org. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cockapoo in Illinois
Cockapoo Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. A Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. Cockapoos are friendly like Cocker Spaniels and shed very little like Poodles. Cockapoos are good family pets and may exhibit a wide variety of characteristics usual in either Cockers or Poodles. A Cockapoo may be half Cocker and half Poodle or have much more of one strain than the other.

lnteresting Cockapoo Trivia Low-Cost Illinois Spay & Neuter Clinics
Cockapoos come in widely different sizes that have different names, such as the Teacup Toy Cockapoo or the Maxi Cockapoo. Cockapoos are hybrids rather than purebreds but some breeders are trying to develop purebred Cockapoos by breeding Cockapoos with other Cockapoos instead of breeding Cockers with Poodles. Cockapoos are not recognized by the American Kennel Club but they are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club. Cockapoos, like both Cockers and Poodles, may suffer from luxating patellas or loose knees.
