Hi, everybody. It's #NationalPuppyDay! The perfect day to help a puppy, so I'm asking you to help me. My name is Petey! I am an adorable male Cockapoo puppy only 12 weeks old. I am a very loving, playful puppy who has stolen many a heart. I love to be held and cuddled. I was born in Missouri but was shipped for sale to Queens, New York, where I ended up in a pet store. Several of my siblings were with me. We were all sold and went to homes, but I got very sick there. I was returned when I would not eat and became ill. The pet store owner could have just sent me back to the breeder and ask for a ... (Read More)full refund, but he refused. I heard him say that they might kill me. I was so scared! Instead, he brought me to a vet for help and they put me on IVs and did blood tests. I heard the doctor say that I may have a liver shunt. Rather than ship me back to the breeder and jeopardize my health even further, the pet store owner brought me to the vet where they diagnosed me with a liver shunt. Knowing that my breeder would put me down, the pet store owner reached out to Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue to help me. So here I am, safe in rescue, and waiting for help! The rescue's vet has examined me and put me on a special diet and medication for now. He said that the next steps are a sonogram and a CT- scan to determine if the Porto shunt is inside or outside of my liver. If indeed the shunt is outside, then I am a candidate for surgery when I am 4-6 months old. I have dreams of living a normal, healthy life and finally getting a family to love me through good times and bad. Abandoned Angels has rescued several dogs through the years with liver shunts but they did not arrive in time to be helped, as they were diagnosed too late. In my case, I have a genuine chance as my shunt has been detected early and my immediate needs are being addressed. My medical care including an ultrasound and CT scan will cost approximately $1,500 with a rescue discount at this time. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation in any amount to help me meet this goal. We've set up a YouCaring fundraising page here: Every dollar helps because it all adds up! While you may never meet me in person, a piece of my heart will always belong to you because you cared about me. Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniel Rescue is a registered 501c3 organization, so all donations are tax-deductible. PS: We're currently running a monthly raffle to help our existing dogs with medical issues. If you donate towards Petey, we will apply raffle tickets for your donation. Happy National Puppy Day ... the best day to love a puppy! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-23-00059Maggie (female)

Cockapoo    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Maggie is a sweet dog. She just turned 13, but you would never know it from the way she looks and acts. I have had her since she was 6 weeks old, and she has always been healthy. She has mellowed out with age, which is nice. Mostly she likes to sit next to me on the couch while I read or watch TV. She does like her walks, though, and she will let me know when it's time to go out or to be fed. She is also good with kids- she absolutely adores my 5-year old grandson. It takes her awhile to warm up to strangers, but when she gets to know you, she wants to sit in your lap. She sleeps on my bed at night, pressed up against me. I am going to be ... (Read More)moving to Germany in a few months. I would like to take her with me, but I think it might be too much for her at her age. I am hoping to find someone who wants a nice companion for a few years. The only health related issues she has is that if she eats dog food with chicken or beef protein, her skin gets itchy. So you have to give her the right food. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Cockapoo in New York
Cockapoo Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. A Cockapoo is a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle. Cockapoos are friendly like Cocker Spaniels and shed very little like Poodles. Cockapoos are good family pets and may exhibit a wide variety of characteristics usual in either Cockers or Poodles. A Cockapoo may be half Cocker and half Poodle or have much more of one strain than the other.

lnteresting Cockapoo Trivia Low-Cost New York Spay & Neuter Clinics
Cockapoos come in widely different sizes that have different names, such as the Teacup Toy Cockapoo or the Maxi Cockapoo. Because Cockapoos are hybrids, it is difficult to predict the characteristics puppies will have based on the characteristics of the parents. Cockapoos, like both Cockers and Poodles, may suffer from luxating patellas or loose knees.
