Cockapoos come in widely different sizes that have different names, such as the Teacup Toy Cockapoo or the Maxi Cockapoo. Cockapoos are hybrids rather than purebreds but some breeders are trying to develop purebred Cockapoos by breeding Cockapoos with other Cockapoos instead of breeding Cockers with Poodles. Because Cockapoos are hybrids, it is difficult to predict the characteristics puppies will have based on the characteristics of the parents. Cockapoos are not recognized by the American Kennel Club but they are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club. Cockapoos, like both Cockers and Poodles, may suffer from luxating patellas or loose knees.
